PACKING

moving day tips & pre-planning

Before the movers arrive:

  • Make sure everything is packed and ready to be moved. Clearly label any boxes or packages with their respective rooms and contents.
  • Have a list of any information the movers may need, such as the location of your utilities or the keys to your new home.
  • Be available to answer questions and direct the movers.

Before your moving date:

  • 8-6 weeks before:
  • Create a list of necessary moving supplies, such as boxes, packing tape, and bubble wrap.
  • Transfer your insurance policies to your new address.
  • Start cleaning out your home and decluttering.
  • If you are moving long-distance, make travel arrangements and research your new area.
  • 1 month before:
  • Purchase or rent packing supplies.
  • Schedule the disconnection of your utilities and the transfer of your services to your new home.
  • Start packing non-essential items.
  • Schedule your move with a moving company.
  • 2 weeks before:
  • Complete a change-of-address with the USPS and other important organizations.
  • Pack all remaining items.
  • Clean and empty your appliances.

Packing:

  • Start packing early and avoid procrastination.
  • Pack fragile items separately and use packing materials to protect them.
  • Label each box clearly with its contents and the room it belongs in.
  • Pack heavier items in the bottom of the boxes and lighter items on top.

For larger appliances:

  • Remove any loose fittings and pack them separately.
  • Secure any moveable parts or doors to avoid damage.
  • Fill the interior of the appliance with blankets or other soft materials to protect it.

We hope these tips help you plan for a smooth and stress-free move!
